Two Years of Leadership in Nepal Karate Federation (NKF): A Glorious Journey of Medal Wins!

Time is moving fast, and we have now completed two years of leading the Nepal Karate Federation (NKF). During this period, Nepali karate athletes have brought historic successes in various international competitions, making the nation proud. Here is a summary of Nepal’s major medal achievements over the past two years.

Major Achievements of 2023

10th World Shitoryu Karate Championship (September 24–26, 2023, Jakarta, Indonesia)

🥇 1 Gold, 🥈 3 Silver, 🥉 5 Bronze


19th Asian Games (Hangzhou, China)

Arika Gurung made history by winning Silver in Women’s Kumite (68 kg).

Nepal’s first-ever Karate Silver medal in the Asian Games.


Thailand Open Karate Championship

Nepal won 12 medals (1 Bronze in Senior, 11 medals in Junior & Cadet categories).

Nima Tamang won Bronze in the Senior 55 kg category.


SAKF Karate Championship (November 7, 2023, Kathmandu, Nepal)

Nepal dominated with 29 Gold, 17 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals.


Major Achievements of 2024


8th South Asian Karate Championship (Thimphu, Bhutan)

Nepal defended its championship title by winning 62 medals (31 Gold, 20 Silver, 11 Bronze).


20th Asian Senior Karate Championship (Hangzhou, China)

Arika Gurung won Silver in Women’s +68 kg Kumite, marking Nepal’s first-ever medal in this championship.


16th APSKF Championship (Singapore, November 28 – December 2, 2024)

🥇 2 Gold, 🥈 2 Silver, 🥉 5 Bronze


USA Open Karate Championship (March 2024)

Arika Gurung won 1 Gold and 1 Silver, bringing global recognition to Nepal.


WKF Karate 1 League (UAE)

Arika Gurung made history by winning Nepal’s first-ever Silver medal in this prestigious event.


Karate Training & The Rise of a New Generation

Kumite coach Kushal Shrestha and dual medalist Kata coach Monde Kaji Shrestha are playing crucial roles in training and developing karate in Nepal.

A new generation of karate athletes is emerging, replacing experienced players.

Continuous training, competitions, and talent scouting across various karate dojos in Nepal signal the arrival of fresh talent.
